Happy Friday! Another great week and we can't believe it is almost May! Here are a few updates and reminders: - WW 10 Test = Wednesday, May 4th - Science Fair = Please check in with your child about their science fair project. The experiment and data collecting should be completed by Monday, May 16th. - Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) & Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) = All makeups have been completed. If your student did not get the chance to complete a makeup, it is not counted against them. - Quarter 4 = As we begin quarter 4, we are hoping to end the year with the best work completion yet! We will be continuing to have students check Aspen weekly and encouraging them to be turning in missing work sooner than later. - Math Facts = Remember to practice your multiplication facts regularly up to 12! Here are some academic updates from this past week: - ELA (201) = We officially completed our projects and celebrated our work by reading each other's magazines! Everyone did a great job and I am truly impressed by the final product! - ELA (217) = We have been working on filling out our organizers for our five text structures! - SS = We did a great job presenting our final projects for Unit 5! - Math (201) = This week we finished learning about three-dimensional rectangular prisms. The class had a chance to redesign/repurpose a box after finding the volume and surface area of it. Next week, we will begin our decimal operations unit. - Math (217) = This week we started out unit about ratios and proportions. We looked at how data is compared in different comparison statements and were introduced to the strategies of using proportions and rate tables to solve problems. - Science = This week we started our Sexual Health unit. The classes learned about the DECIDE decision-making steps and about changes that will happen during puberty. Science Fair proposal forms have been returned to students and they should be typing their Component 1 information into the Google Classroom assignment. Happy Friday! We were so happy to have everyone back from spring break and hope that everyone was able to find some rest during that time. We can't believe quarter 4 is already one week down and it was wonderful getting to see you all during parent teacher conferences on Wednesday! Here are a few updates and reminders:
- Science Fair = Please check in with your child about their science fair project idea. The proposal document is due Monday, April 25th. - Vaccine Cards = When your student is fully vaccinated, you can submit a picture of the vaccine card to have on record by emailing a copy to Nurse Annie --> [email protected] - Mask Optional starting Monday, March 14th = The only students who will be required to wear masks will be those returning from a quarantine from having Covid or being exposed for days 6-10. Students who are exposed, even if they are fully vaccinated without exhibiting any symptoms, will have to mask through day 10. An email will be sent if your child needs to do so. - Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) & Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) = If your child missed any of the IAR tests, they will begin make-up testing in the next week. - Quarter 4 = As we begin quarter 4 after break, we are hoping to end the year with the best work completion yet! Here are some academic updates from this past week: - ELA (201) = We have been working on our magazine projects and finished peer conferencing! - ELA (217) = We have been learning about text features and have started to pick topics for our new project! - SS = We have been working on our Unit 5 projects! - Math (201) = This week we continued to investigate three-dimensional shapes like cubes and rectangular prisms. We reviewed how to find volume and learned how to calculate surface area for these shapes. Next week, we will have a quiz and finish the unit with a project on "re-designing" a box. - Math (217) = This week we became garden designers and worked on a scale drawing of a garden design for our client based off her requirements. We also finished the scale drawing unit project. We will start our next unit next week, which is all about ratios and proportions. - Science = This week we studied the scientific method in preparation for choosing projects for the Science Fair. Project proposal forms were sent home and need to be completed by Monday, April 25th. This form is where each student will describe the project they will be completing for the 5th Grade Science Fair. We made nets and began to understand how volume and surface area are measured. We will continue this topic after break. - Math (217) = This week we finished our similar figures unit with our unit test. We also got started on the unit project and have been working on creating a scale drawing using scale factor. Our next unit is all about ratios and proportions. - Science = This week we studied the scientific method in preparation for choosing projects for the Science Fair. Project proposal forms were sent home and need to be completed by Monday, April 25th. This form is where each student will describe the project they will be completing for the 5th Grade Science Fair. Next week, we will introduce rectangular prisms and learn about finding volume for 3-D shapes. - Math (217) = Next week, Room 217 will have their Stretching & Shrinking Unit Test on Monday. They will also work on the unit project next week. - Science = Next week will be studying the scientific method in preparation for choosing projects for the Science Fair.
