Happy Friday! We had a great end to the second quarter and cannot believe we are already halfway done with the school year! We are hoping to start off the third quarter strong! Here are a few updates and reminders for next week:
- Vaccine Cards = When your student is fully vaccinated, you can submit a picture of the vaccine card to have on record by emailing a copy to both Nurse Annie and Nurse Megan --> [email protected] & [email protected] - Monday, January 31st - Wednesday February 2nd = Newsies Auditions from 3:50pm - 5:50pm. For more information, students can pick up paper copies of the packet from the Drama and Music Room. --> Audition Sign Up --> Audition Information and Drama Packet --> Musical Audition Packet --> Audition Parent Form (One form per Student) - Masks = Two KN95 masks will be going home with your students that were provided from CPS - New Quarter = As we start the new quarter, we are continuing to have students check Aspen weekly and encourage them to be turning in missing work sooner than later. We are hoping to have a better quarter in regards to work completion. - Math Facts = Remember to practice your multiplication facts regularly up to 12! Here are some academic updates from this past week: - ELA (201) = We started to read our new novel, Number the Stars, and have been discussing the significance of setting. - ELA (217) = We have been working on our argumentative essays and have finished our body paragraphs and our counterclaim paragraph. - SS = We have been learning about how different groups of people were seeking independence. - Math (201) = Students have spent the week practicing multiplying fractions with fractions, mixed numbers and whole numbers. Next week, I will introduce how to divide fractions. - Math (217) = We are continuing our geometry unit and have been exploring the properties of polygons and their angles. We learned the formula for the angle sum of any polygon and which polygons can tesselate. This week we will focus on building triangles and quadrilaterals. - Science = In our role as food scientists, we have been looking at the properties of molecules. The students finalized a drawn nanoscale model to explain how the dye molecules separated. We will be finishing the first chapter of this unit next week and will be writing scientific explanations on why the dye molecules separated during the chromatography test. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Mrs. Kovar & Mrs. Parsons

Students will practice multiplying fractions with fractions, mixed numbers and whole numbers. After next week, ask your child when they would multiply fractions in real life! - Math (217) = We are continuing our geometry unit and will be exploring the properties of polygons and their angles. We will learn the formula for the angle sum of any polygon by the end of the week. - Science = In our role as food scientists, we have begun looking at the properties of molecules. We will be finishing the first chapter of this unit next week and will be writing scientific explanations on why the dye molecules separated during the chromatography test. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Thank you, Mrs. Kovar & Mrs. Parsons Happy Friday! We hope that everyone is doing well and staying safe. Here are a few updates and reminders for next week:
- Vaccine Cards = When your student is fully vaccinated, you can submit a picture of the vaccine card to have on record by emailing a copy to both Nurse Annie and Nurse Megan --> [email protected] & [email protected] - Monday, January 17th = No School - Martin Luther King Jr. Day - Coonley School Spelling Bee = Tuesday, January 18th; each class will be watching from their own classroom over a Google Meet. - Star 360 Reading Testing (District Mandated Assessment that replaced MAP Testing) = Thursday, January 20th - Star 360 Math Testing (District Mandated Assessment that replaced MAP Testing) = Friday, January 21st - End of Quarter 2 = Thursday, January 27th --> We are working to have students check Aspen in class and we are encouraging them to check on their own and turn in any missing assignments! - Math Facts = Remember to practice your multiplication facts regularly up to 12! Here are some academic updates from this past week: - ELA (201) = We officially finished our argumentative essays and have started to build background knowledge on WW2 to start our new novel unit. - ELA (217) = We conducted research for our argumentative topics to record evidence and create bridges to explain them. - SS = We completed our 'Come to Our Colony' project to entice people to come to either the northern, middle, or southern colonies. - Math (201) = We have been learning and practicing how to add and subtract fractions. We now know we need to find a common denominator first and then we can add and subtract fractions. We have also been working with mixed numbers and have had to borrow sometimes when subtracting. There will be a quiz on adding and subtracting fractions next week! - Math (217) = We have started a new geometry unit called "Shapes and Designs." We have been reviewing and learning about angles. We will practice using protractors and angle rulers to draw angles next week. - Science = In our role as food scientists, we have begun looking at the properties of molecules. We conducted a chromatography test on food coloring and and now trying to understand what is happening at the nanoscale with the molecules. Students have been creating models this week to show their understanding. We hope you all have a fantastic three day weekend! Thank you, Mrs. Kovar & Mrs. Parsons |
