Happy happy Friday! Wow - four weeks done! We can't believe it was this week that we lost power since it feels like forever ago. This next week brings us into the middle of the quarter which we can't believe is already here! Here are a few reminders going into next week:
- Math Quiz (201) = Tuesday, September 28th - Independent Reading Assessments = Due Thursday, September 30th - Wordly Wise Unit 2 Test = Friday, October 1st - Progress Reports Come Out = Friday, October 1st - Math Quiz (217) = Friday, October 1st - Virtual Curriculum Night = Monday, October 4th from 6:00 - 6:45pm. We will send out the link as we get closer! - Personal Devices = We highly encourage students to NOT bring their personal devices to school. If a student has a Smart Watch, they cannot use the communication features in school. Please remind them of this. - Graded Assignments = Many graded assignments have started to go home with students. If a student received a STAR next to their grade, they are able to (and encouraged) to resubmit their work. They do this by correcting the answer on a SEPARATE sheet of paper, not on the actual assignment, and then bring both sheets together to the correct teacher. The incorrect work will be circled on the assignment. If something has a 1/2 off, your child should know from the teacher if it was a spelling or form error or something else. If they do this and get those answers correct, they can earn up to half the points they missed back. - Math Facts = Remember to practice your multiplication facts regularly up to 12! Here are some academic updates from this past week: - ELA (201) = We started our next unit of Wordly Wise and have started working on the topic of summarizing chapters in our novel. - ELA (217) = We started our next unit of Wordly Wise and finished up reading another story where we focused on making inferences. We started our novel as well! - SS = We finished our community and identity unit and did a fantastic job of presenting our projects! - Math (201) = We have been learning about greatest common factor and least common multiple. We solved word problems using those strategies. - Math (217) = We learned about four quadrant graphs and have started learning the differences between expressions and equations. We will continue to work on writing and solving equations next week! - Science = We are continuing to answer "Why don't we see a lot of stars in the daytime?" and we started a research project about stars, moons, and galaxies. Happy fall and happy weekend to you all! Thank you, Mrs. Kovar & Mrs. Parsons

Happy happy Friday! Another great week in fifth grade and we can't believe that it has already been THREE weeks! Here are a few reminders going into week four!
- Beginning Band Interest Meeting = Monday, September 20th at 4:30pm at this GOOGLE MEET LINK (if you are interested in joining but cannot attend this meeting, email Mr. Wrzesinski) - Student Materials = We have noticed some friends bringing in small totes and binders for transporting their materials. This has seemed to be really successful so far! We encourage you to talk to your child to see if that would be successful for them too as they move from class to class - Lunch in Classrooms = This is continuing until we learn otherwise so PLEASE refrain from sending any peanuts or tree nuts - Touching = Please remind your children that they should only be touching things that belong to them and that they should refrain from touching other children. This is a Covid safety precaution that the entire school is implementing Here are some academic updates from this past week: - ELA = We have been working on our first unit of Greek and Latin Roots for vocabulary work. We also finished up working on creative writing assignments from our first stories! - SS = We are finishing learning about identity and community and creating a poster for our end of unit project! - Math (201) = We have been learning about factors and multiples. If anyone is interested, this link helps provide information to find a memorial or tribute near you: 9/11 Memorials . We hope that everyone has a great weekend! Thank you, Mrs. Kovar & Mrs. Parsons Hello 201 & 217 families!
Happy Friday! We are officially on our last day of our first week! It has been a really great week and we can't believe we are already going into a three day weekend. Going into week 2, we wanted to give some reminders! 1 - Please try to make sure students are coming to school prepared with their belongings. We really want our students to remember to bring their water bottles each day as the water fountains are out of use. 2. Interested in being a Room Rep this year? Please complete this form by Tuesday, September 7th. Thank you! 3. We are going to be posting our updates on our website weekly! Please start to refer to our site for news. You can check it out here! 4. The new CPS guidelines require that any student who travels to an orange state must quarantine for 7 days and receive a negative Covid test OR quarantine for 10 days before returning to school. Please keep this in mind as we know many families are traveling out of state for the holiday weekend. 5. We know that wearing a mask all day can be a bit tough, but we would appreciate encouraging reminders to our students to only take their mask off when they are eating or drinking. We also have noticed a few students who have had masks that are too big for them and they continue to fall down. Thank you for the help! We hope you all have a wonderful long weekend! Remember - no school on Monday! Thank you, Mrs. Kovar & Mrs. Parsons |
