Happy Friday! We had a great week and can't believe there are only 3 weeks until spring break! Here are a few updates and reminders for next week:
- Vaccine Cards = When your student is fully vaccinated, you can submit a picture of the vaccine card to have on record by emailing a copy to Nurse Annie --> [email protected] - Mask Optional starting Monday, March 14th = CPS has announced that our schools will be starting to be mask optional on Monday. We had discussions about this in our classrooms about being respectful, non-judgmental, and providing understanding and space to all regardless of their choices. The only students who will be required to wear masks will be those returning from a quarantine from having Covid or being exposed for days 6-10. - Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) = We are scheduled to continue this year's IAR assessment on Thursday, March 24th. We will be taking the math assessments on this day. - Text Structure Quiz (201) = Wednesday, March 23rd - G & L 8 Test = Friday, March 25th - Science Unit Test for Modeling Matter = Wednesday, March 23 (217) and Friday, March 25 (201). - Bullying Prevention Unit = Our school's Culture & Climate Team has been looking for a new SEL curriculum. As a school wide initiative, the middle school has started to pilot a program that we are now going to start using in 5th grade. We will be working on a Bullying Prevention Unit starting next week. - Quarter 3 = As we are nearing the end of the quarter, we are continuing to have students check Aspen weekly and encourage them to be turning in missing work sooner than later. We are hoping to have a better quarter in regards to work completion. - Math Facts = Remember to practice your multiplication facts regularly up to 12! Here are some academic updates from this past week: - ELA (201) = We have been taking different topics and writing about them using different types of text structures. - ELA (217) = We finished up working on our novel and did a fantastic job presenting our final projects! - SS = We have continued learning about the Declaration of Independence! - Math (201) = We have a good understanding of how to find area and perimeter of triangles and how triangles relate to rectangles. We will spend a few days working on measurement conversions and will then get back to learning about area and perimeter of parallelograms. - Math (217) = We have a good understanding of what makes two shapes similar and how the scale factor affects the new figure's area, perimeter and side lengths. We will spend a few days working on measurement conversions and will then get back to learning about similar figures. - Science = We have finished our unit on matter. We will be reviewing for the Unit Test on Monday/Tuesday and will take the final assessment at the end of the week. (Wed = 217 and Fri = 201). We hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Mrs. Kovar & Mrs. Parsons
